This guitar parts video discusses hammer ons, pull offs and bending strings. When executing a hammer on you pluck the string just once while holding your finger down onto the fret. Then you set your finger above it right after you pluck it. The effect of doing this is getting two notes from a single pluck. Pulling off is inversely the opposite.
